Certification ICEA

The Institute of Certification for Ethics and the Environment (ICEA) is an organization that controls and certifies companies, which behave respectfully with respect to people and nature, and protect the rights of workers and consumers.

Around 13,000 companies that are controlled must comply with the criteria of this label, which are at the same time ecological, social and biological.

ICEA – Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification is one of the largest certification bodies in Europe. It acts as a true control of the legal framework and the eco-sustainability of corporate policies.

ICEA: The eco-detergent certifier, biological and biodegradable raw materials

All of our organic products have been certified by ICEA as environmentally friendly cleaners. It is a quality certification for the entire life of the product, from the chemical formula to the elimination. They are biodegradable.

ICEA has launched a regulatory pathway in the industry that has, to date, produced a disciplinary framework shared by the parties involved in the production, marketing and consumption of these products.

The European regulation of detergent products guarantees a real valorization of the agro resources, a real practice of the respect of the environment all along the chain of production and a real respect of the consumer. The purpose of this Euorpean regulation is:

  • Establish a link between certain detergent products and Organic Farming by promoting the use of vegetable ingredients from Organic Farming.
  • Establish a link between certain detergent products and respect for the environment.

The ecological requirements ICEA

The main requirements that the standard must guarantee are:

  • Absence in both the product and the packaging material of materials “at risk” from an ecological point of view. The products are completely biodegradable.
  • The absence of non-plant raw materials considered “at risk”, ie allergic, irritating or detrimental to human health and the environment.
  • Packaging from renewable raw materials, recyclable materials or tied to a return restraint system.
  • A product with good performance and efficiency comparable to conventional high-end products.

Products bearing Eco detergency are allowed to use products from traditional farming provided they are not GMOs or GMO derivatives (in the case of products “at risk”, or present on the market under the form of GMOs such as corn, soybean, rape, etc. The voluntary certification of the product is required by accredited third parties).

The prohibitions of ICEA Eco Bio certification:

  • Ingredients of plant origin must be of biological or wild origin.
  • Contentious ingredients in respect of the environment, whether contained in the product or packaging, are prohibited.
  • Non-plant substances that are potentially dangerous, that is allergens, irritants, or potentially dangerous to health, are prohibited.
  • Environmental impacts, such as unwanted packaging or non-recyclable materials, should be minimized.
  • Raw materials must be very low in toxicity, and must have no unpredictable effect on people.
  • The raw materials must be compatible with the skin.

Certification ECOCERT

Launched in 2006, the detergency standard was developed in consultation with industry experts, suppliers, manufacturers and distributors. The aim is to define a higher level of demand than the regulations in force concerning the recovery of natural substances and respect for the environment throughout the production chain.

ECOCERT now certifies more than 2,100 detergents from 185 companies in 27 countries.

1. The basic principles are :

• PROTECTING our planet and its resources

• INFORM the consumer

• REDUCE waste and unnecessary waste

2. Certification to enhance the approach of the manufacturer

For the Ecodétergents label

• Valuation of all ingredients of natural origin

• Maximum 5% of synthetic ingredients from the restrictive list in Annex I.A.1

• No minimum bio required

• No environmental risk phrase is allowed on the product

3. Inform the consumer

Manufacturers and distributors of certified products have an obligation of transparency in relation to the regulation: exact percentage of ingredients of natural origin and ingredients from organic farming, the latter to be clearly identified, exhaustive list of categories of products ingredients contained in the products, precautions of use for the respect of the environment.

4. Annual or semi-annual audits of the manufacturing and product packaging sites

Thanks to the controls carried out by our auditors on the manufacturing and packaging sites, ECOCERT ensures compliance with all the criteria of the standard. Production methods are as important as the product content. ECOCERT requires through its reference system, a high quality system, allowing to follow the product throughout the production chain to the origin of its ingredients. The company whose products are certified must have implemented an environmental management system that reduces water and energy
